They used to say if you died out there in the mines they'd keep you alive, hook you up to a machine, make you less than a man... or maybe more. But that didn't work on everyone. Not all of the Revenants staid loyal. They took him out, to shoot him up and cut the wires, to bury him in a shallow grave, but the bullet didn't take.
She was just passing through. A stranger in a strange land, skin as pale as a gleam of moonlight and a hunger a mile wide. But maybe, just maybe, they had what the other needed.
Laid bare
Sensational skin
Tenuous
Grasping hold
Bit lips and wind-burns
Sands blown into the sun
Staring up into the distance
Time to turn tail and run
Pay out or play it up
Dancing on a wired leash
Make the machines do the dirty work
Buried until you're just neck deep
Leeched life
Broaching the subject
Mortality
Is getting old
Rust devils running
Against the desert storms
That wasn't thunder rumbling
That machine's alive
His voice is hoarse
Still asking for freedom
Not worth a fuck
But destined to be buried anyway
Such a pouring hunger
And you haven't even sharpened up
A hundred strangers and then some
Thinking you got a pretty mouth
Solutions ready
Drawn together
It'll be a bath
To remember
Crunched in or punched out
No pulse but pounding now
Never seen a dance so dark
Found a partner where it counts
Back to back
Still eating dust
Heading for the horizon
After we burn this down
Pay it out cause praying up
Has never solved a goddamned thing
Helping us to help ourselves
To whatever it is they've got
His grave is fresh up on that hill
And you're still looking grand
The sun has set the moon is full
Taken by the hand
Throw the bones or break them
Catch the midnight storm
And fall for this just like the rain
Cause it's all he's fucking got
Laid to rest
Revenant
Never forgiven
Now never forgot
REVENANT
