Pride

Engulfed by such prestigious wrath
Encased beneath prodigious skies
I find myself locked up in depths
Of hatred I did not devise
Of cages, sung by those un-flown
Of paradise, of many colored tones
Of words kept in, as poison drained
And sang a song of monochrome
Re-pressed in this unnatural page
Flowers longing for their days
To shine beneath an equal sun
And keep the faith of founding sons
Entreated to behold a scene
Enraptured by the damndest things
As men preach mercy on their tongues
But grind the bread for children's bones
And make of love a fairy tale
And of their savior make a joke
And take, and take, and never care
Until the players bow and choke
Throw roses that were never worn
Throw lightning and these glowering storms
Throw nooses over woody nooks
Hang the truth and burn the books
Enshrine in law enshrouded thoughts
Envisioned by vessels in the dark
Shunning empathy as sin
Equality means giving in
And giving up the ghost at last
The least of these shall be made first
A voice in the desert crying out
For a Kingdom born that's upside down
For a just and better world for all
A picture set in more the stone
For barriers to truly crumble
Pride must come before that fall
Pride
