Anymore

Violins
And out from under
Instruments
Of droning thunder
While I wonder
Piling blunders
Windows vacant
Hungry hollows
Vanished or vanquished
Banished and sanguine
Outward I'm wasting
Inward still waiting
I came out into the miasma of that great city
Seeing the remnants blocking roadways
A million mouths left wanting
Cut off and left for dead
The ruddy sky alive with ash
A smoke that lingers here forever
Walking circles down lonely paths
Wishing I could find you here
Overturning rubble
Pulling on rusty roots
With wires up above me
Messages riding currents
I couldn't breathe if you told me to
But you're quiet just the same
Withdrawn and maybe lost
A name, a soul, a face
The fire's going out now
Barren Earth left scorched
Still crowded by these voices
Plaintive memories returned
These nerves like cables frayed
Heartstrings barely remembering
What to make of a melody
What it might mean to be played
Let this be a revelation
Of where I laid my head
A tide of ghosts washed over me
Their hands crowding my skin
Let resistance be futility
I cannot follow any deeper
Footprints fade with time
Windswept I lose the path
Chords struck
Tolls are taken
Slumber empty
No more dreams
While I wander
Seeds in tow
Ferried water
Tears that flow
I came back to that old garden
I bent back the chains of that old fence
I heard the river there still flowing
I ran to where the sun might set
And set my mask here by the wayside
And sat myself down by the bank
And watched the water take my failures
And felt the fire take my breath
I Don't Even Have A Name Anymore
