Almost Fallen

A short poetic offering today about patience, longing and the vertigo of getting close to falling in love.
The Quiet Sea
I was standing at the edge
Watching the waves roll in
But I couldn't hear a thing
Beneath these thoughts of you
Watching the Earth inhale
With so many questions on my tongue
And a future I might draw with you
Now uncertain or undone
I was so close to falling
On that event horizon with knocking knees
Nervous but on fire
With moments left to seize
I know you had to sail away
I do not long to see you lost
I only wish you'd found yourself
While still here in my arms
I pray that you will chart a course
Follow the stars down in your heart
And perhaps they will lead you back to me
That is what I must hope
So I will watch the sunrise
Keeping my eyes on water's edge
Hoping your ship will soon return
So I can dive right in
